White Tiger

Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8.0)

White Tiger is a lively, modern Korean spot in Brooklyn known for mixing traditional flavors with non-traditional ingredients.

In Korean folklore, the white tiger is said to be an elusive, strong, and sacred spirit. But did you know you could experience all of this mystique a stone’s throw from Prospect Park in Brooklyn? Enter White Tiger: your new go-to for *takeout* Korean. Their secret weapon is founder and absolute firecracker, Chef Liz. She started this labor of love with her husband and two friends, and her eclectic culinary upbringing made her a true visionary. You’ll find her walking around the restaurant starting up conversations, checking in, and recommending the right hot sauce to throw on your bibimbap. Not sure WTF bibimbap even is? White Tiger’s own Chef Liz Kwon gives you everything you need to know on how to correctly eat the Korean rice dish. Watch here.

The space is brightly colored with a mix of local art and Korean artifacts. The spot is typically filled with Brooklynites: a group of old friends from sharing a feast of Dolsot Bibimbap, Spicy Pork Bulgogi, and Kimchi Fries, a new couple grabbing a cocktail and splitting a bowl of Spicy Curry Popcorn, and us gorging ourselves with Ramyun and not talking. Best part? They’re taking this pandemic seriously:

We have become cleaning & sanitizing monsters! There is an area at the front of the restaurant where you can come pick up your food, CONTACTLESS EXCHANGE! And after every exchange, we sanitize the tables again and spray all the pens or devices that have come into any contact with anyone.

White Tiger is also offering delivery through Seamless, GrubHub, and DoorDash. Call them at 718.552.2272 or use their online option for pick-up orders and they will waive the delivery charge!

The Goods

Vegetarian/Vegan Ramyun

Like a warm comforting hug from your grandma in soup-form. A vegan broth full of umami with egg noodles, vegetables, tofu, and the best thing to top it off...a poached egg. Wear a black shirt to hide the noodle splashes and come hungry: this bowl will fill you up.

Dolsot Bibimbap

You’re not fooling anyone by saying it’s “too much” and you “can’t eat the entire bowl.” Served in a hot stone bowl, its *the* most comforting mix of rice, onions, scallions, zucchini, bean sprouts, carrots, shiitake, fried egg, and tofu (Yes, you should probably order this with pork). Spicy, bursting with flavor. Healthy I think? Okay, we’ll bite.

Drinks

You know what will make this corona-anxiety go away? Tequila. We highly recommend their namesake cocktail White Tiger, filled with chili-infused tequila blanca, Coco Lopez, red chili, and lime juice. Luckily, they are whipping up this cocktail for takeout, as well as a few more of their classics like the Southie (if you’re in the mood for whiskey), the Gangnam (if you’re feelin’ cozy), and the Lychee Sangria (if you’re feelin’ fruity). These are all available for you to mix up for yourself with 16oz or 32oz cocktail kits! Each kit comes with the pre-made cocktail, ice and even the garnish. Zoom Happy Hour’s got nothing on you, babe.
